National Hot Dog Day: Hot Diggity Dawg!

Let's be "frank," shall we? When it comes to special "howlidays," this one is a real "wiener!" July is going to the dogs! Literally! July 23 is National Hot Dog Day, an annual food holiday that takes place during the dog days of summer. In fact, the entire month of July is dedicated to the dawg - its National Hot Dog Month! Hot diggity dawg!

Whether you prefer yours in a bun, on the run, baked or hot off the grill, one thing’s for certain – Americans love their dogs. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, more than 1 billion packages of hot dogs were sold in stores in 2013. While Los Angeles was the top dog when it came to consumption in 2013, New York, Atlanta, Philly and Chicago rounded out the top five.

Fan favorites at ballparks across the country, hot dogs, franks and/or wieners are the perfect summer-time sandwich no matter where you eat them. While the name of the actual product is often used interchangeably, franks are typically comprised of all-beef while wieners usually contain pork.
