Black Cat Appreciation Day: Purrfect!

Whether you are an avid animal lover, feline fan or crazy cat lady, this "purrfect howliday" may be right up your alley! Aug. 17 is Black Cat Appreciation Day, an annual holiday that celebrates black felines in all their magnificent glory.

Sad ‘Tail’ of the Black Cat

Wayne Morris created the annual event in an effort to raise awareness about the plight of black cats and to encourage folks across the country to adopt these often maligned and misunderstood animals.

Many animal shelters across the country are inundated with unwanted, unloved, neglected and abused animals. And in many locations, black cats and dogs have the lowest adoption rate and highest euthanasia rate simply because of the color of their fur. Black cats are often falsely associated with bad luck and superstition.

Please consider opening your heart and your home to an animal in need. Visit your local animal shelter today - before it's too late. Adopt - don't shop!
