International Talk Like a Pirate Day

When it comes to holidays, millions of people from around the world look forward to this annual occasion each and every year. Move over, Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Hook, Captain Kidd and Blackbeard. Sept. 19 is Talk Like a Pirate Day (TLAPD), also referred to as International Talk Like a Pirate Day and/or National Talk Like a Pirate Day.Pirates, seadogs and landlubbers all over the globe look forward to the event all year long.

It all started when pals John Baur and Mark Summers came up with the idea during a friendly racquetball game back in 1995. While people celebrated the occasion here and there, it wasn’t until syndicated columnist and author, Dave Barry, mentioned the holiday in his popular column in 2002, when the annual event really took off! Today this swashbuckling holiday is an international sensation celebrated in over 40 countries.

Whether you talk like one, dress like one or stumble upon a treasure chest filled with valuable treasures, International Talk Like a Pirate Day is just plain fun! And now you can speak like a pirate with simple-to-learn words, phrases and pirate lingo........
