International Picnic Day

Rural Dining

With the official beginning of the summer season just days away, how does a little R&R sound to you right about now? Instead of going to work, hitting the books, cleaning the house or running the kids to their next activity, why not ditch everything on your to-do list and go on a leisurely picnic instead! June 18 is International Picnic Day, an annual world-wide event that celebrates the glorious picnic.

Whether big or small, elaborate or simple, picnics are a perfect way to reconnect with that special someone, beloved family members, old or new friends or co-workers. There really are no rules when it comes to picnic planning and preparation. While you’re welcome to use a picnic basket (with ice packs and utensils) and a pretty table cloth, they aren’t required. You can pack a feast fit for a king or just pack a few simple snacks and beverages. Napkins, sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended. And just in case Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate, why not bring the picnic inside?

Although life isn't always a picnic, today should be! Now all you need are a few fabulous recipe ideas and you’re on your way! Today is also International Panic Day!
