World Sauntering Day
Let's be frank. Many of us are overworked and stressed out. Between the job(s), the kids, school, housework and the never ending to-do list, finding a quiet moment to relax can be a monumental task.
June 19 is World Sauntering Day, an annual "holiday" that encourages people around the world to slow down. W.T. (Bill) Rabe and some friends came up with the holiday idea decades ago in order to encourage folks to do things at a slower pace.
Sauntering is defined as "to walk at a leisurely pace; stroll" according to The Free Dictionary. While enjoying a leisurely stroll isn't something many of us have the time to enjoy on a daily basis, this special day reminds us that it is important to stop and smell the roses. Instead of running at full-speed ahead, why not slow things down a notch or two and "saunter." Enjoy the scenery and all the sights and sounds that many of us no longer notice.
June 19 is also Juneteenth.
