National Fettuccine Alfredo Day
If you are a pasta lover, today may be one of your favorite days of the year. It’s National Fettuccine Alfredo Day. This annual food holiday, observed on Feb. 7, celebrates the popular Italian dish made with fettuccine pasta covered in rich and creamy sauce.
Legend has it, when Alfredo di Lelio’s wife lost her appetite due to pregnancy in 1914, he created a simple dish comprised of noodles, cheese and butter to encourage her to eat. The dish was so good, she encouraged him to include it on the menu at his small restaurant in Rome. And folks all around the world have been enjoying this delightful pasta dish ever since. The classic Alfredo sauce only has a few ingredients – butter, cream, salt and pepper and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and should be served immediately.
In honor of the holiday, why not try one or two or tried-and-true Fettuccine Alfredo recipes?
