Presidents' Day: What's Open & Closed?

While many Americans are coping with frigid and snowy weather, a highly anticipated three-day weekend is almost here. A popular holiday is hours away and Americans are ready to celebrate. It’s Presidents’ Day, also referred to as Washington’s Birthday, an annual federal holiday that not only honors the birthday and life of United States’ President George Washington, but also commemorates all past American presidents.

The holiday is observed on the third Monday in February. This year, the observance takes place on Feb. 20, 2017 . Some businesses, government offices and services around the nation will be closed in honor of Presidents’ Day. Please call ahead or visit the organization's website for information.

Government Offices - Federal offices will be closed on Presidents’ Day. Depending on your location, state, county and many city offices will also be closed.

Postal and Package Information - According to the United States Postal Service, (USPS), post offices will be closed. There will be no regular residential or business mail delivery or pickup service on Presidents’ Day. UPS and Fed Ex will be operating as usual.

Stock Market - If you are planning on adding to your portfolio, Monday may not be your lucky day. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is closed in observance of the holiday.
