International Earth Day
March 20 is International Earth Day, an annual event celebrated on the Vernal Equinox.
While Earth Day is celebrated in April in the United States, the “original Earth Day” is observed internationally. Despite location, age, religion or culture, International Earth Day serves as an important reminder to all people around the globe about the plight of our planet. The “holiday” raises awareness about the various environmental concerns our planet faces and brings attention to its original purpose – peace, justice and the care of the Earth.”
First observed on March 21, 1970, the event was officially recognized when the Secretary General of the United Nations and other well-known celebrities and world leaders, signed the proclamation written by the founder of International Earth Day, John McConnell.
