International Homeless Animals Day
Today is International Homeless Animals’ Day, an annual “howliday” dedicated to helping our furry four-legged friends around the world. On the ‘heels’ of Black Cat Appreciation Day, International Homeless Animals’ Day is observed annually on the 3rd Saturday in August.
The world-wide event raises awareness about the pet overpopulation epidemic. While the economic conditions in America are improving, many shelters are inundated with dogs and cats. Sadly, millions of unwanted, unloved, neglected and abused animals are euthanized each year through no fault of their own.
Created by the International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR) back in 1992, this important event shines the spotlight on the urgent need of affordable spay and neuter programs to help save Fido and Fluffy’s lives. In honor of the special day, people and organizations around the world observe the day with a wide variety of animal-related events – pet adopt-a-thons,candlelight vigils, blessing of the pets, open houses, dog walks, rallies, low-cost spay/neuter clinics and more.
Please consider adopting an animal from your local shelter or pound. Give one of these amazing companions a 'furever' home – before it’s too late.
