Salami Day: The Deli Meat Americans Love to Eat

Sept. 7 is Salami Day. Created by the Salami Appreciation Society (SAS) back in 2006, Salami Day is an annual food holiday that brings attention to this often over-looked deli meat. Salami is a cured sausage that is fermented and air-dried. Available in a variety of varieties, folks have been enjoying salami for thousands of years.

Whether you prefer yours sandwiched between two slices of bread, with cheese and crackers, as a pizza topping, or all by its lonesome, salami not only tastes great, but is a source of protein and small amounts of some vitamins and minerals, too.

Today is also National Beer Lover's Day! Cheers!
