National Mule Day: Badass holiday celebrates mules of all shapes & sizes

A special day of the year is almost here and people are ready to celebrate. Oct. 26 is National Mule Day, also known as Mule Appreciation Day. Not to be confused with National Mole Day, National Ass Day or Mule Day, this annual holiday not only commemorates the arrival of a very special delivery and also celebrates mules of all shapes and sizes. President Ronald Reagan officially proclaimed the occasion in 1985 to commemorate Royal Gift, a mule that was given to President George Washington from King Charles III of Spain on Oct. 26, 1785.

Mules are the offspring of two different species - a male donkey and female horse. Available in a variety of colors, they are also available in various sizes – from the adorable miniature version to the big draft. Mules are often used as work animals, companions, pleasure riding animals and high jumpers. They have also been used by the military to transport equipment in rugged terrains.

In honor of National Mule Day, why not whip up one or two mule-inspired cocktails below? Giddyup!
