International Games Day: Game on!

If you or someone you know is a gamer, go grab your joystick. One of the most highly-anticipated events in the entire year is finally here. Once again, people of all ages from all over the world are heading to their local library to get their game on! The third Saturday in November is International Games Day at your library.

Formally known as National Games Day, the annual event encourages young and old alike to visit their local library while enjoying a game or two of choice in the spirit of cooperation. Although libraries are generally quiet and peaceful places to read books and study, the event was created in an effort to reconnect communities through all sorts of educational and entertaining games. From card games, bingo, tabletop games and classic board games to role playing and popular video game favorites like Pac Man, Grand Theft Auto and “Angry Birds,” more than 1,000 libraries around the globe will be participating this year.

The free, family-friendly event is not only loads of fun but is also a great opportunity to make new friends as well. If you’re ready for a little friendly competition, be sure to check with your local library to see if it is participating in this year’s event. It's your move. Game on!
