National Compliment Your Mirror Day

If you have ever asked yourself, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest one of all?" It goes without saying, you are, of course! July 3 is National Compliment Your Mirror Day, a special day of the year that “reflects” just how beautiful you are!

While the origins of this “holiday” are unknown, mirrors can be our best friend or greatest enemy. Mirrors are a girl’s best friend when we are younger. We spend a lot of time in front of the mirror, primping and perfecting, making sure our makeup and hair is just right. And a few sneak peeks at mirrors and shiny objects throughout the day ensure everything is still in its proper place.

But the older we get, the reflection staring back at us is often not as user-friendly. In fact, we may not even recognize the person in the mirror! Laugh lines, deep wrinkles, furrowed brows and gray hairs showing up in the strangest places, have appeared practically overnight. And to make matters even worse, certain "parts" are no longer where they once were! For some, that once familiar reflection in the mirror is now the spitting image of mom or dad. How and when did that happen?

But let’s “face” it. We’re all getting older. Kids, careers, spouse(s) and life’s day-to-day struggles, can take their toll. For some folks, life’s journey is written all over their faces. For others, the aging process has been more kind and like a fine wine, some get better with age. But for those still searching for fountain of youth, why not embrace those fine lines, wrinkles and gray hair? You’ve earned ‘em!

July 3 is also Eat Beans Day.
