World Plumbing Day: Shining the spotlight on importance of plumbing industry
While many people recognize the importance of abundant and safe, clean drinking water, the important role plumbing has in the health and safety of today's society is often overlooked. March 11 is World Plumbing Day (WPD), an international event launched in 2010 by the World Plumbing Council.
World Plumbing Day shines the spotlight on the important role the plumbing industry plays in our lives as well as the environment. The World Health Organization estimates that about 2.6 billion people, which is about 35 percent of the entire population, do not have access to basic sanitation systems. If you have ever been without a toilet or running water, you quickly realize how vital modern day plumbing technology is in your life.
As the population continues to grow and adverse weather conditions abound, conserving our water supply is vital.
Water Saving Tips
Turn off the tap when you are brushing your teeth!
Use energy saving dishwashers and washing machine.
Wait until you have a full load of laundry or dishes before you fire up the machine.
Install low flow showerheads in the shower.
Speaking of the shower, take shorter showers or baths.
Don't let it drip. If you have a leaky faucet, pipe or running toilet, get it fixed. It will not only reduce your water bill, it will save water.
Reuse rainwater for plants.
