Move over, Batman. Go grab your cape, Superman! Whether you prefer super human superheroes, vile villains or out-of-this-world aliens, a holiday fit for superheroes is here and humans around the world are ready to celebrate!
Today is Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) and participating stores across the globe will be celebrating by giving away special comic books – for free. This fun “holiday” is observed annually on the first Saturday in May.
Whether you consider yourself a comic book collector or novice, comic books captivate and entertain both young and old alike. First observed in 2002, FCBD was created by comic book retailer, Joe Field, and year after year, the event continues to grow. FCBD not only celebrates the art of comic books, but also celebrates the independent stores that sell them and the loyal fans who love to read and/or collect them.
So why not gather up the kiddies and head on over to your nearest participating independent comic book store and pick up a free comic book? And for even more fun, why not dress up like your favorite comic book character? Be sure to post your your pics online using the hashtag #FCBD, #Freecomicbookday. Besides giving away free comic books, some locations may also have a variety of events in honor of FCBD.
Please note. Not all comic book stores participate in the annual event. Check the website to find a participating store nearest you and check with your local store for specifics rules. Make sure to arrive at your local store early as there may be a line.
