No matter where you live or how old or young you happen to be, there is one language everyone understands and appreciates – the universal language of music! An international holiday is finally here and folks from all over the world are in the mood to celebrate! Get ready to get your groove on! June 21 is World Music Day, an annual event that celebrates music of all genres.
World Music Day, or Fete de la Musique, is an all-day music fest which originated in France in 1982 and is held on the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. It didn’t take long before other countries celebrated the event. In 2013, 726 cities in 108 countries participated.
The event is free to the public. Music institutions like orchestras and operas as well as professional and amateur musicians can perform in World Music Day. Many events are held outside in the streets, parks or public buildings.
