National Stick Out Your Tongue Day

When it comes to holidays, today is a day to just stick it! Not only is July 19 National Daiquiri Day, but it is also (National) Stick Out Your Tongue Day!

While the origins are unknown, this "tongue-in-cheek" holiday celebrates the glorious tongue. Did you know the tongue is the "strongest muscle in the body and come in all shapes and sizes. This muscular and often unappreciated organ is not only vital for speech, the tongue is also used for eating, tasting and swallowing. The average person has about 10,000 taste buds, which are located on and under the tongue, on the cheeks, lips and the roof of the mouth.

Some believe your tongue can reveal some insight into possible health issues like urinary infections, constipation, insomnia and ringing in the ears. So go ahead and stick it out! Take a good hard look at your tongue and compare it to the Nine Common Syndromes and Possible Symptoms chart to see if your tongue is in top-tip shape!
