National Liqueur Day: Homemade Liqueur Recipes


While not much is known about its origins, October 16 is National Liqueur Day. Sometimes referred to as cordials or spirits, liqueur is a delightful concoction of alcohol infused with fruits, flowers, nuts, herbs or spices.

Learn how simple it is to make liqueurs out of fruits and berries or herbs and spices. Why not whip up some wonderful homemade spirits and give as holiday gifts this year?

Homemade Liqueur Recipes

  • Homemade Cranberry Liqueur – If you love the tasty twang of cranberries, you’ll love this wonderful liqueur. The recipe calls for cranberries, vodka, simple syrup, lemon and orange and optional spices.

  • Chocolate Liqueur Recipe – You’ll need sugar, water, brandy, vodka, caramel food coloring and concentrated chocolate extract.

  • Amaretto Coffee Liqueur – Ingredients include Colombian coffee, sugar, water, 80-proof vodka, brandy and almond flavored oil.

  • Peppermint Schnapps Liqueur – This refreshing drink calls for just three ingredients – peppermint extract, vodka and sugar syrup.

  • Rhubarb Wine – Why not transform that leftover rhubarb from the garden into a delicious drink? You’ll need 3 pounds of rhubarb, sugar, black tea and general purpose wine yeast.

  • Homemade Kahlua Recipe – This simple recipe, from Gunther Anderson, calls for sugar, water, instant coffee, vodka and pure vanilla.
