While Super Bowl Sunday is not technically considered a holiday, many Americans look forward to the annual event all year long. In fact, for many folks, Super Bowl Sunday is the granddaddy of all special occasions!

ut whether you are a football fan or well, not so much, many people do look forward to the creative, entertaining and sometimes shocking commercials that air during the big game. Before the big game kicks off, let’s take a look back at some of the best Super Bowl Ads.

  • One of the best commercials of, well, ever, aired during the 2011 game. The spot? The Force from Volkswagen. You know the one – a young Darth Vader uses his somewhat iffy magical powers to jump start all sorts of things including his parent’s Passat. The Force was definitely with him!

  • This Snicker's commercial stars everybody’s favorite Golden Girl, the young at heart, 90-year-old Betty White.

  • Life imitates art when Brad Pitt takes center stage in this Super Bowl commercial from Heineken.

  • This 1993 McDonalds commercial showcases the “Showdown” between basketball greats Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. Game on, boys!

  • This Coca Cola spot starring Mean Joe Green is still a classic. Just don’t forget to have a Coke and a smile.

  • Imagine a day without technology as we know it. Imagine no mobile devices, laptops and netbooks, no constant connectivity with anyone, anywhere. This Apple Macintosh commercial aired back in 1984 and was directed by Ridley Scott, before YouTube was ever “invented.”
