Happy Bell Bottoms Day: Groovy holiday celebrates fashion trend of days gone by
April 5 is Bell Bottoms Day, an annual event that celebrates a very famous fashion trend of days gone by.
Flared or belled below the knees, bell bottoms were the go-to pants for many in the 60s and 70s – and the bigger the bell, the better. Once worn by sailors, the Sonny and Cher television show helped popularize the wide-legged trousers. Typically made of denim, cotton or polyester, men and women often donned platform shoes to keep the casual pants from dragging on the floor.
So in honor of the occasion, why not dust off those old flared trousers stored (i.e. hidden) in the attic, put on a plaid polyester shirt and step back in time for old time’s sake? Tomorrow is back to the skinny jeans and tees.
