October 24 is a pretty sweet day when it comes to "food holidays." Not only is it National Bologna Day, but today also celebrates a sweet treat many may remember eating as kids. Hip hip hooray – October 24 is (National) Good and Plenty Day!
These delicious licorice-flavored candies have been enjoyed for over one hundred years. The original Good & Plenty candy actually began production back in 1893 by the Quaker City Confectionary Company and is touted as America’s oldest brand of candy. Bite-sized white and pink outer shells in capsule form contain soft and chewy centers.
The candy even had a mascot made famous in the 1950s! Choo Choo Charlie was a train engineer who used Good & Plenty candy to fuel the train! Check out the video on this page and see for yourself! Today, Good & Plenty is produced by the folks at HERSHEY’S.
In honor of Good and Plenty Day, why not grab a box of the old-fashioned candy and take a stroll down memory lane?
