Heimlich Maneuver Day: The life-saving procedure used around the world

Ever since Dr. Henry Heimlich “invented” the emergency procedure back in 1974, this life-saving maneuver has saved drowning and choking victims all over the globe. June 1 is Heimlich Maneuver Day.
According to the American Red Cross, choking causes over 3,000 deaths per year. Touted as the “best rescue technique in any choking situation,” the maneuver saved its first choking victim one week after the technique was published. Heimlich also introduced the Heimlich Chest Drain Valve which saved thousands of soldiers who were shot during the Vietnam War.
