'Hoppy' American Beer Day: Raise your glass and cheer a great tasting beer

Have you heard the latest “buzz?” A very special day of the year is here and Americans are more than ready to celebrate. Get ready to raise your glasses, America. Oct. 27 is American Beer Day, also referred to as National American Beer Day, an annual holiday that celebrates the most popular alcoholic drink in the land – beer!

According to the Brewers Association, more than 3,400 breweries were operating in America in 2014, an 18 percent increase from the year before. Craft beer, made by smaller, independent brewers, is typically made with traditional ingredients and sometimes not-so-traditional ingredients to give the beer its distinctive flavor. Small and independent craft brewers contributed nearly $56 billion to the economy last year and provided more than 424,000 jobs.

When it comes to health benefits of alcohol consumption, wine usually receives the good “buzz.” But some studies suggest, moderate beer consumption may also be good for you, too. As with most things in life, moderation is key.

Whether you consider yourself a connoisseur, weekend warrior or someone who just enjoys a tasty brew every once-in-a-while, it’s time to raise your glass and cheer a great tasting beer! It’s time to head on over to your local pub or brewery in your neck-of-the-woods to see what's "on tap.”

Whether you prefer a tried-and-true favorite or a brand new brew, bottom’s up! Happy American Beer Day, folks! Cheers!

Today is also Boxer Shorts Day and Cranky Co-Workers Day.
