Houseplant Appreciation Day

If the winter blues have you a little down-in-the-dumps, perhaps a little green may be just what the doctor ordered! While the weather outside may be frightful, Jan. 10 is delightful! Besides Peculiar People Day, National Cut Your Energy Costs Day and National Bittersweet Chocolate Day, it's also Houseplant Appreciation Day, an annual "holiday" that celebrates houseplants of all shapes and sizes.

Plants not only add color to the home, they also help us stay healthy! They increase humidity levels and decrease dust within the home, reducing cold-related illnesses by over 30 percent. Some believe plants can lower blood pressure and reduce stress.

Indoor plants naturally clean the air we breathe by reducing the levels of airborne pollutants in indoor environments. Indoor plants help remove up to 87 percent of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from the air.
