It's Name Your Poison Day: What’s yours?

When it comes to holidays, today is not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill type holiday. June 8 is Name Your Poison Day, also referred to as National Name Your Poison Day.

Not only are the origins of this annual holiday unknown, the phrase “name your poison” is also unclear as well.

  • Some believe that the term refers to a popular phrase bartenders use when asking customers what type of alcoholic beverage they’d like to order - "Name your poison."

  • The phrase can also refer to a choice of drugs or intoxicants.

  • Name You Poison may also refer to a choice of execution type.

  • While others believe “Name Your Poison” refers to making a decision – making a choice between the lesser of two evils.

Do you happen to have a weakness for a certain food or beverage? Will chocolate, potato chips, fried this-or-that or a few sweet treats hit the right spot? Or does the thought of going without your daily cup of coffee, diet soda, glass of wine with dinner or relaxing night-cap send chills up your spine? Are you glued to the tube on a daily basis because you are addicted to watching those raunchy reality shows or daytime soaps?

Be honest – most of us have a guilty pleasure or two. So go ahead – name your poison!
