It's National Chocolate Day: Sweet!
With the popular Halloween holiday just a few days away, one of the sweetest days of the entire year is almost here. If your taste buds are screaming for a sweet treat to eat, you’re in luck. While the origins of the annual holiday are unknown, Oct. 28 celebrates that creamy, decadent and delicious chocolate we just can’t get enough of. National Chocolate Day in the U.S.A. is here and Americans are more than ready to celebrate. Sweet!
First discovered by the ancient Mayans, folks have been enjoying chocolate for centuries. Did you know chocolate, derived from cocoa beans, was actually used to treat a variety of ailments back in the day?
Whether you prefer dark, white, creamy milk chocolate or loaded with nuts or other goodies, chocolate is the sweet treat we love to eat. Besides tasting great, some believe chocolate may actually be good for you, too. Some studies suggest eating chocolate may help lower cholesterol levels, prevent cognitive decline and reduce the risk of strokes and heart disease. And just in case you need yet another reason to indulge a little decadent delight, some believe chocolate may be an aphrodisiac. It is important to remember while there may be some health benefits of enjoying chocolate from time-to-time, chocolate is typically high in calories, fat and sugar. Like most things in life, moderation is key.
Happy National Chocolate Day! Enjoy.
