National Bikini Day: Celebrating the Itsy Bitsy Beautiful Bikini

Not only is July 5 National Workaholics Day, it’s also a very special day many will really appreciate! Whether you love to wear them or prefer to observe them, this annual holiday celebrates the iconic, itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny bikini. July 5 is National Bikini Day! Summer season is here and lots and lots of sexy skin is in!

On this day back in 1946, French automobile engineer, Louis Reard, officially debuted a creation that would forever change the fashion industry. Reard "invented" the two-piece bikini. Back in the day Reard had a difficult time finding a professional model to model his skimpy bikini so he hired an exotic dancer to model it, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Needless to say, the design was a ginormous hit, especially with men. And for women, gone were the days of being covered up from here to there. Revealing more of the body was finally acceptable.

Reard’s daring design forever changed the way women donned swimwear. In fact, Reard was named one of Time Magazine's 100 All-Time Fashion Icons! Louis Reard passed away in 1984 at the age of 87.

In honor of National Bikini Day, today is the perfect excuse to go out and buy that super-cute bikini you’ve been eyeing.
