National Creamsicle Day

Have you heard the "scoop?” A refreshing food holiday is here and Americans are in the “moood” to celebrate! And with summer winding down, now is it the perfect time to indulge in a cool and creamy treat to eat. Get ready to scream for ice cream! Aug. 14 is National Creamsicle Day in the U.S.A!

Creamsicles

Made out of vanilla ice cream covered with a layer of fruit-flavored ice, creamsicles are frozen ice cream treats we love to eat. These iconic treats are the perfect pick-me-up especially during the scorching dog days of summer.

Legend has it that 11-year-old Frank Epperson "invented" the refreshing snacks by accident back in 1905 when he left a concoction of powdered soda, water and a stirring stick in a cup sitting on his porch on a very cold evening. The next morning, he discovered the mixture was frozen to the stick. His "Epsicle," named after him, was a big hit with friends and family. In 1923, Epperson applied for a patent on his Eppsicle (or Epsicles) ice pop treat.

Years later, Epperson created the creamy Creamsicle, a frozen treat comprised of a vanilla ice cream center with an outside layer of flavored ice.

In honor of National Creamsicle Day, why not indulge in one or two deliciously refreshing creamsicles?
