National Girlfriends Day: Celebrating those special ladies in your life

Aug. 1 is National Girlfriends Day, an annual event that celebrates and honors those very special ladies in your life. While the origins of the annual holiday are unknown, this special occasion, also referred to as Girlfriends Day, could be celebrated two ways. Whether it’s one or two of your favorite BFFs or that special gal you love, today is all about those fabulous gal pals who make life so much more fun and enjoyable.

Have you ever wondered what life would be like without that very special lady in your life? Today celebrates that amazing sister, mother, daughter, classmate, co-worker or neighbor that has touched your heart and your life like no one else. Whether you’ve known her all your life or only a few years, a girlfriend is an encourager, confidant, coach and cheerleader all wrapped up in one beautiful package. And despite the fact she knows all your deepest, darkest secrets, she remains fiercely loyal and rarely judges. That one-in-a-million gal loves you no matter what you look like and what your mood happens to be at the moment. Tell her how special she is to you today!

How to Celebrate National Girlfriends Day

  • Surprise her by taking her out to lunch or dinner.

  • One word – SPA!

  • Flowers are always a nice surprise.

  • Whip up her favorite sweet treat to eat.

  • Have you own wine-tasting party. Have each of your girlfriends bring a bottle of wine for a tasting.

  • Speaking of parties, you’re never too old for a slumber party! Invite all your BFFs over, ask them to bring their favorite movie of all time, whip up a few snacks and a few tasty drinks, put on your comfiest PJs and settle in for movie night with just the girls. No children, no men allowed!

  • If you’ve had a falling out with an old best friend, give her a call and catch up. Life’s too short to hold grudges.

Happy Girlfriends Day to all you fabulous ladies. And speaking of friends, Friendship Day is coming up too!
