National Pizza with Everything (Except Anchovies) Day: Enjoy a loaded pie, oh my

Have you heard the news? When it comes to food-inspired holidays, Nov. 12 takes the cake! Not only is Nov. 12 Chicken Soup for the Soul Day and Happy Hour Day, it’s also National Pizza with Everything (Except Anchovies) Day, also known as National Pizza with the Works Except Anchovies Day.

Regardless of what you call it, this annual holiday celebrates all things pizza, minus the salty anchovies. Whether your prefer your pie with a zesty tomato sauce or garlicky white sauce and whether you prefer thin and crispy, deep dish, Chicago style or somewhere in between, folks have been enjoying pizza for centuries. The Greeks are credited as making the first pizzas – round, flat breads topped with oils, spices and other ingredients.

Today is the day to give the ole’ heave-ho to ho-hum and go hog wild! Surprise your significant other – order his or her favorite toppings on the entire pie. Try why not try toppings you’ve never tried before, except for anchovies of course. Sure, it’s a risk, but life is short. Enjoy.
