National Read a Book Day: Grab a great book and get your read on
If you've had a long, stressful week, what could be better than snuggling up and settling in with a great read? Sept. 6 is National Read a Book Day.
While the origins of this annual holiday are unknown, today is the perfect opportunity to take a little time for yourself and read that book you’ve been “eyeing.” Whether it’s a steamy romance, who-done-it mystery or action-packed thriller, reading is not only fun to do, it’s good for you, too.
Reading is an essential skill that helps reduce stress, helps improve memory and concentration and improves your vocabulary and analytical thinking skills. Reading to children helps builds a stronger bond between parent and child and helps improve logical thinking and better communication skills. Reading also helps build self-esteem and improves creativity.
No matter how old or young you happen to be, this affordable means of entertainment can take you to places you’ve never been, allows you to magically travel back in time or transports you to the future. Reading is a great way to learn about other cultures, too.
