National Walk to Work Day: Hit the road, ditch the wheels and take a hike
Spring has sprung and warmer weather is finally on the way! Now is the time to get out of the house and enjoy a little fresh air!
On the "heels" of National Walking Day, the first Friday in April is a special day of the year that encourages folks around the country to take a hike! Literally. It's National Walk to Work Day! Launched back in 2004, the annual event is endorsed by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Prevention Magazine and other professional organizations.
Benefits of Walking
Obesity is on the rise in America. Exercising for as little as 30 minutes a day reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke and other diseases.
According to Dr. Oz, people who walk regularly have less heart attacks and strokes. Walking regularly also reduces your chance of diabetes, reduces stress and boosts your immune system, too. You'll not only love your new waistline, but regular walking also has an age-reducing effect as well. Walking is not only good for you, it is free to do, too. You don't need expensive equipment or outfits. Just put on your comfy shoes and take a hike!
Today is the perfect day to hit the road, ditch the ride and hoof it! You'll not only save money on gas and reduce the wear-and-tear on your wheels, but you'll help the environment as well. If walking to work just isn't possible, why not go for a walk during your lunch hour instead? Just be sure to encourage your co-workers to join in.
