When it comes to out-of-this-world events, now is the perfect time to get into the holiday "spirit." May 3 is Paranormal Day, an annual event observed by enthusiasts who believe in "phenomena and manifestations which lie outside of normal experience, and which can neither be scientifically explained nor proved.”

Whether you believe in ghosts, aliens, haunted houses, crop circles or the elusive Bigfoot, Paranormal Day provides the perfect opportunity for folks to share their personal experiences with other believers. And just in case you aren't ready to call Ghostbusters quite yet, why not make it movie night with a few of your favorite paranormal-themed flicks listed below?

  • Inspired by an actual exorcism that took place decades ago, The Exorcist is a must-see when it comes to scary flicks. This 1973 classic stars a young Linda Blair, Elle Burstyn and Max von Sydow.

  • The Mothman Prophecies, a 2002 film starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney, is loosely based on a series of bizarre events that took place in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
