World Environment Day

Nations from all over the world will participate in World Environment Day (WED), an annual event observed every June 5. The United Nations General Assembly created the special day back in 1972 in an effort to raise environmental awareness and positive environmental action.

Each year, a different nation hosts the event. People from around the globe will participate in various tree plantings, parades, concerts, rallies, flash mobs, clean-up campaigns and environmental events. In 2011, more than 4,000 activities took place in nearly 150 countries.
