World UFO Day

Whether you believe in little green men and shiny flying saucers, many humans around the globe will take part in an out-of-this-world holiday. July 2 is the official World UFO Day, an annual event that recognizes the existence of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and marks the anniversary of a very special event.

On July 2, 1947, Mac Brazel found something quite curious on his land in Roswell, New Mexico. In fact, the metal debris he found was so unusual, he notified authorities. Through a series of events that many to this day believe are highly suspicious, the event is known as the “Roswell Incident.”

While there are others, Roswell is probably the most well-known and best documented UFO incident. Many people believe that despite the fact there is evidence that intelligent beings and UFOs do in fact exist; some governments and the military have not shared the information with the public. First celebrated in 2001, World UFO Day was created to persuade governments to disclose information they may have on UFOs.

But whether you happen to be a believer or a skeptic, the Roswell Incident is definitely an interesting read. A 1994 television documentary about the Roswell Incident is also available online.

How to Celebrate World UFO Day

  • Watch one or two of the classic alien/UFO-based movies like “E.T: The Extraterrestrial”, “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” “Men in Black,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Signs,” “Alien,” “Avatar,” Cocoon,” “Transformers,” or “Star Trek,” to name a few.

  • Watch a few episodes of the popular 1960s classic television series, "My Favorite Martian."

  • Learn more about UFOs by watching a few documentaries.

  • Attend or organize a World UFO Day Meetup.

  • Print out this Alien Face Mask in blue or green, just for fun.

Because World UFO Day has been observed on June 24 and/or July 2, the World UFO Day Organization (WUFODO) has officially declared July 2 to be the World UFO Day to "eliminate any confusion."

Today is also I Forgot Day. Don't forget!
